Our birth pool rentals are thoughtfully prepared for families planning home births and are designed to help create a warm, supportive atmosphere during labor and delivery.

Each rental includes everything you need for setup and use, along with guidance from our team to help you feel prepared and confident leading up to birth. Whether you’re planning an unmedicated labor or simply looking for additional comfort measures at home, we’re here to support your experience every step of the way.

POV: You’re making one of the most comforting postpartum soups ever. 🧡🥣

Creamy kabocha squash, red lentils, warming cumin, and a rich broth blended into silky perfection. Inspired by the nourishing wisdom in “The First Forty Days.”

Serves 8:

3 Tbs sesame oil
1/2 white or yellow onion, roughly chopped
1/2 shallot, roughly chopped
1 medium kabocha squash (peeled and cut into small cubes)
1 tsp cumin
1 Tbs curry powder
2 quarts vegetable broth
2 cups red lentils
2 tsp soy sauce
2 Tbs nutritional yeast (optional)

Warm the oil over medium heat. Add the onion and shallot and lightly brown them. Add the squash, cumin and curry powder and lightly sauté for 5 minutes.

Reduce heat to low and add the broth. Bring to a boil. Cover the pot and let it cook for 40 min. Add the lentils and cook an additional 10-15 minutes until the lentils are tender.

Let the soup slightly cool then blend into a purée. Season with soy sauce and nutritional yeast and enjoy!

Save this for soup season and share with a new mama who deserves a nourishing meal.✨

With all three of my previous pregnancies, I delivered early. So naturally, when I became pregnant with my fourth, I expected the same. By the time April rolled around, I was more than ready to meet my baby. My due date was April 28, but I was convinced there was absolutely no way I would carry until then. I prepared as though I would deliver in the middle of April, and each night I wondered if that would be the night labor began.

The circumstances surrounding this pregnancy were complicated, and I was praying that the Lord would allow me to go into labor during specific dates on the calendar. I fully trusted that He would answer those prayers, but I never imagined how beautifully everything would unfold.

This was the first pregnancy in which I experienced prodromal labor. To say it was discouraging would be an understatement.
My first bout began at 35 weeks and 2 days. In total, I endured six different nights of prodromal labor before true labor finally started.

On April 12, we were convinced it was the real thing. I was awake most of the night, and my husband even began preparing our room for delivery. Then everything stopped.
I felt as though the Lord was telling me to stop trying to force things and instead trust His perfect timing.

After I reached 39 weeks, I decided to completely surrender the timing of delivery and trust that our daughter would come when she was meant to. I knew my body wasn’t broken, although there were moments when I wondered if labor would ever begin. Many nights, I lay in bed listening to @christianhypnobirthing recordings to calm my mind. When I reached 39 weeks and 3 days, I had officially carried longer than I had with any of my previous pregnancies. (Continued in Comments)

The final stretch of pregnancy can feel like a world of its own—where time slows down, emotions run deep, and the mental load can feel heavier than the physical. This is the longest I’ve ever carried, and it’s stretching me in ways I didn’t expect.

There’s so much noise at the end—well-meaning questions, timelines, expectations. But I keep coming back to this truth: my body was made for this. And this baby already has a birthday… we’re just waiting for it to be revealed in perfect timing.

Learning to surrender.
Learning to trust.

Recently, I was accused of not being in this work for the right motive.

And I’ll be honest — that one stung.

Because doula work isn’t a trend for me. It isn’t about recognition. It isn’t about anything surface-level. This is a calling. A surrender. A “yes” I gave to God when He placed a deep burden on my heart for mamas who feel unseen, unheard, or alone.

Through Mama Bear Doula Care, I show up because I believe no woman should have to walk pregnancy, birth, or postpartum without steady, compassionate support. I show up because ministry doesn’t only happen in church buildings — sometimes it happens in hospital rooms, living rooms, and in the quiet hours of the night when a mama just needs someone to say, “You’re doing amazing.”

My motive is simple: to serve well. To love well. To advocate well.

And even when birth doesn’t go as planned, I stay. I support. I help process. I remind mamas that their strength isn’t defined by an outcome.

I don’t answer to opinions. I answer to the One who called me.

• IV Fluids: Often used to keep you hydrated or to administer medications. They are standard if you choose an epidural or need an induction.
• Epidural Anesthesia: A regional pain relief option that numbs the lower half of the body while allowing you to stay awake and alert for the birth.
⚙️ Managing the Process
• Induction of Labor: Using medical methods to start labor before it begins on its own, often for health or safety reasons.
• Pitocin: A synthetic version of oxytocin used to stimulate contractions, either to start labor or to help it progress more effectively.
• Continuous Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM): Using sensors on your belly to keep a constant eye on your baby’s heart rate and the timing of your contractions.
🛠️ Assisted & Surgical Birth
• Forceps or Vacuum Extraction: Assisted delivery tools used during the pushing stage if the baby needs a little extra help to emerge safely.

1. 🌿 Environment: Set the Scene
Create a calm, supportive space. Dim the lights, grab a water bottle, and have snacks and books/phone nearby. A comfortable chair and good support pillows are essential. Minimizing distractions helps both you and your baby focus on the connection.
2. ✨ Technique: Latch is Everything
A proper latch prevents pain and ensures your baby gets enough milk. Look for a wide-open mouth and ensure the baby takes in a good amount of the areola (not just the nipple). Experiment with different positions (cradle, cross-cradle, football hold, side-lying) to find what works best for you both! When in doubt, seek guidance from a lactation consultant.
3. ⏰ Frequency: Follow the Cues
Forget the clock, and watch your baby! Newborns typically feed 8-12 times in 24 hours. Cluster feeding (frequent, short feeds) is normal, especially in the evenings or during growth spurts. Respond to early hunger cues like rooting, lip-smacking, or moving hands to the mouth.
4. 💖 Self-Care: Nurture the Nurturer
You can't pour from an empty cup! Breastfeeding requires a lot of energy. Prioritize hydration, nutritious meals, and rest. Schedule a few minutes each day for yourself, whether it's a quick shower, a nap, or just five minutes of silence. You are doing an amazing job.
5. 🙏 Patience: It Takes Time
This is arguably the most important insight. Breastfeeding is a learned dance for both mother and baby. The first few weeks can be challenging as you build your supply and work out the kinks. Be kind to yourself, celebrate the small wins, and remember that every ounce of milk is a testament to your hard work.
